Kozarev in Herceg Novi at Ceremony Marking Serbian Unity, Freedom and National Flag Day

Conveying the greetings of Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia Marko Đurić, Kozarev extended his congratulations on the occasion to all Serbs, noting that this year marks the 108th anniversary of the breakthrough of the Salonica Front, one of the pivotal events leading to the end of the First World War. He emphasised that, through its courage and immense human sacrifice, the Serbian people left an indelible mark on those events and became part of the historic foundations of a free Europe.

He stated that Serbia is the homeland of all Serbs and that the sense of belonging is a value that transcends state borders, generational divides, political differences and other distinctions.

Kozarev emphasised that this day places upon us a duty to preserve and foster our language, culture and traditions and, above all, to safeguard and pass on to future generations the universal values of freedom, independence and unity for which our ancestors fought and gave their lives.

Recalling the Serbian people’s centuries-long struggle, often waged against far more numerous and powerful adversaries, Kozarev emphasised that the Serbian tricolour is not merely a national symbol, but also an emblem of pride, continuity and identity which, he said, should be respected, celebrated and proudly displayed every day.

Speaking about Serbian national unity, Kozarev said that it rests on the promotion of peace and stability and on the development of good-neighbourly relations based on mutual respect, stressing that this is the vision and statesmanlike policy pursued by President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić. He expressed his firm conviction that there are no obstacles that Serbs, united under the banner of freedom and guided by such a policy, cannot overcome.

“I would like to recall that, as the most numerous people in the region, with large communities of our compatriots in Republika Srpska, the Republic of North Macedonia, as well as here in Montenegro, we have an obligation to our descendants to endure and prosper in our ancestral homelands, but also a debt to our ancestors to preserve their honourable name by living in harmony with all our neighbours and all people of goodwill around us, regardless of nationality, religion or skin colour,” Kozarev concluded.

The ceremony was attended by Ambassador of the Republic of Serbia to Montenegro Nebojša Rodić, ministers of the Government of Montenegro, members of the Parliament of Montenegro, representatives of the Serbian Orthodox Church and cultural and artistic associations, as well as numerous guests and representatives of public and cultural life. Dr Sava Nikolić also addressed those present.
